If you decide to apply to a university high in the league ranking or decide to embark on a creative profession you might need to prepare in advance. You need to have a portfolio of work and projects, skills that make you competitive compared to others which will give you additional points for admission.

Your background and competitivness are forming by years in advance...
Sometimes it is not enough to have good grades in relevant disciplines and be a diligent student. If you have chosen a programme where enrolment is on a competitive basis it is important to demonstrate high motivation and commitment. First by sending your CV, motivation letter, essays or portfolio. This is the first selection process you will go through. Secondly in person at interviews to which you will be invited if the admission committee liked your portfolio or essays.
For some creative, sport, medical or scientific programmes your background matters. This can be your practical experience and achievements, creative portfolio, references and recommendations. For example, to enter arts, acting, cinema or design schools you will require a very strong portfolio (studies, publications, stories, photos, audio recording) or an impressive track record (diplomas, prizes and trophies) that demonstrate your talent and achievements.
For certain programmes it is common to submit proof of skills, for example language certificates, sports achievements.
Not everybody knows, for example, that to apply to music programmes in the UK you will need to have a certificate of exam ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) above level 5. You can sit this exam only with ABRSM associated members in one of the major music centres in Europe. Preparation for this exam while studying at music school can take from 2 to 5 years.
The final choice won’t be too difficult if you are well prepared.
Start the process of choosing a profession and the country of studies in good time. Ensure there is enough time for you to think, reflect and test yourself as well as focusing on subjects, projects and skills necessary for enrolment. If you are considering different ideas, study various requirements for various programmes. Go to educational exhibitions and fairs, participate in open days. The final choice won’t be too difficult if you are well prepared.
